Welcome !

Welcome to this site - about Avian (Bird) Flu pandemic and which protective personal equipment would be useful.

My name is Anita, RN pulmonology nurse.

Within this blog, we shall share advices, documentation, instances and experiences about protective gear in epidemic or pandemic situations. What to wear, dos and donts ... You will find my first posts under the link "Archives".

Since a century,we had two experiences with "flu" viruses : the deadly 1918 Spanish flu pandemic, and the controlled SARS epidemic in 2003 - not speaking of the bacteriological warfare projects, set since the last WW2, which planned higly infectious strains ...

Besides of a strict hygiene, a protective gear is the first line of defense again a flu as Avian or even the old SARS of 2003 ...
If an epidemic occurs or worse a pandemic, the gear will be necessary. It will limit the hazard of human contamination in close contacts. When ? Who ? Where ?

  • If you are a member of an healthcare staff, or a healthcare worker, the gear will be mandatory. No choice.
  • Not all human and urban activities will stop. Most will have to run on. As a worker in public area, you will likely be required to wear at least a mask.
  • Even all schools and Universities were not closed during SARS. But children or students were asked to wear masks.
  • In transports, the mask will be too a must.
  • In crowded places, a mask will be a good choice.
  • If you have to care for a relative at home who is sick, you will need a gear and set isolation rules.
